At 76 years old, Samuel L. Jackson has appeared in over 150 movies, making him one of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures. He is best known for his roles in Pulp Fiction (1994), the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999-2005) and Die Hard With A Vengeance (1995). Most recently, Jackson has taken on other exciting roles, including Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (since 2008) and Stephen in Django Unchained (2012) opposite Jamie Foxx in the titular role. He even made a surprise cameo at the Super Bowl Halftime show, introducing Kendrick Lamar to the amped-up crowd in New Orleans. This appearance has fans reeling over Jackson’s iconic performance and legacy.

Given his level of fame and high income, Samuel L. Jackson has called several cities home throughout his career. The actor (who hails from Chattanooga, Tennessee) graduated from Morehouse College in 1972; relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, helped him establish a wanderlust that he still nurtures. Even in his mid-70s,  Jackson stays booked and busy traveling all over the map. When he’s not on the road or hard at work, the Black icon enjoys relaxing at home with his loved ones. While his initial major in architecture at Morehouse was overshadowed by his success in film, he still clearly has an interest in curating his own spaces.

Samuel L. Jackson and His Wife First Settled Down in NYC

After meeting his wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson in Atlanta while studying at Morehouse College, Samuel L. Jackson opted to live in New York. This move was likely to spark his career into the thriving theater scene; ultimately, it did just that. The couple moved into a Harlem brownstone with as much personality as the animated actor in 1981 – at the time, they paid $35,000 for their home. Harlem is a historical and predominantly Black area so this future legend fit right into the Hamilton Heights neighborhood. According to Architectural Digest, their starter home was a two-family build at 522 West 143rd Street.

Eventually, they outgrew this home and were ready for an upgrade. In 1997, they sold the brownstone for $125,000. Jackson has noted in multiple interviews that the decision to relocate was due to the weather. In comparison to California, where Jackson spent lots of time working, the cold was just not ideal. Although he did not keep their first home, in the early 2000s the couple bought a 3,000-square-foot condo in Manhattan. This Upper East Side property was purchased from NBA star Gregory Anthony for a whopping $4.8 million.

It is a grand condo located in the Leonori, a prewar condominium close to Central Park at 26 E. 63rd Street. It was once three different apartment units so as people may imagine, the condo offers a high-end sanctuary for the family. The couple listed the condo in 2018 for $13 million but eventually took it off the market. In 2023, there were reports of Jackson’s residence being rented out for $15,000 a month.

Ultimately, the Couple Prefers the West Coast’s Warm Weather

After their time living in New York, Samuel and LaTanya made a jump to the West Coast. This followed years of renting in Los Angeles for both of their successful yet nomadic careers in the arts. Once they had their first child, however, the Jacksons wanted to put down roots. After starting their family and seeing the trajectory of their careers, they decided to settle down in Encino – a Los Angeles neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region known for upscale yet architecturally unique homes. LaTanya takes credit for spotting the striking family home that turned out to be a perfect fit for them during a drive.

In 1995, the couple purchased the Tudor-style property for $1.1 million. This spacious home is located in a gated neighborhood and has embellishments that reflect their suburban and southern backgrounds. The rustic location has both a main and guest house, which makes plenty of room for visitors. The former has four bedrooms while the latter has three. Jackson also wanted to tailor the property to his family’s taste so celebrity decorator Cecil N. Hayes and many others helped make it feel like home. The family did some renovations by knocking down a few walls to make the rooms bigger but overall used carefully selected artwork to reflect their personas. In 2001, Samuel L. Jackson and his family listed their Tudor home for $2.8 million. The following year it sold for $1.95 million.

Jackson’s Beverly Hills Mansion Was Previously Home to a British Lord

Samuel L. Jackson reportedly still lives in a Beverly Hills mansion.

In 2000, the Jackson family moved to a Beverly Hills mansion located in a gated community up in the mountains and have seemingly lived there since. It was purchased from comedian and actor Roseanne Barr for $8.35 million. The privacy of the property was undoubtedly a big appeal for the very public-facing couple, but the canyon views from such an elevated standpoint are also killer.

The house was built in 1987, nodding to Samuel L. Jackson’s pattern of living in charming and historical homes. His mansion is reported to have been owned by a British lord who paid handsomely for the estate, (over $10 million including renovations). It has nine bedrooms, ten bathrooms, a pool, a spa, a rose garden and a tennis court. There is also a guest house with two bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. The property has over 11,000 square feet of space and also features a 2,300-square-foot putting green. All of these impressive features are likely why the star has stayed put in recent years.
