Apartment decorating used to be challenging. Renting and living in a small space has some restrictions, but with a glass-half-full attitude, you can easily turn challenges into opportunities. Boring white walls can become a canvas for creativity and transform your apartment. When Christina (@copenhagenapartment), a TikTok creator with a passion for unique edits, found herself in a similar situation, she opted for a creative solution. Like many renters, the kitchen in her Copenhagen apartment was white and drab. Desiring something more stylish, she turned to printed wallpaper to hack her kitchen.
Takeaways
New
Transforming her kitchen into a cozy bungalow wasn’t as difficult as you may think. Using the crisp white backdrop as a starting point, it’s easy to envision something new. Bringing it to life is also much easier today thanks to renter-friendly hacks like peel-and-stick tools. Whether wallpaper, tiles, contact paper, or vinyl, peel-and-stick options have allowed renters to modify their space without demolition. For Christina, the tools proved to be perfect for creating a warm and inviting kitchen.

How She Did It
Like any remodeling project, Christina’s began with a vision and a plan. Her kitchen featured white cabinets, walls, backsplash, and countertops. However, this worked in her favor. With a completely white background, it was easy to see how the prints would work in the space. The plan was to have a warm kitchen with a rustic English country feel. To do this, she opted to use two printed wallpapers. The first option was a wood print to add an element of texture to the kitchen’s cabinets. After covering the top and bottom doors, she then used the wood-printed contact paper to cover the open shelves above the stove.
The next step was to bring warmth. Instead of using a sunny color, she decided to use a rustic, printed peel-and-stick wallpaper. The design featured texture, muted colors, and a classic English countryside print. These elements resonated with her, reminding her of the stylish home her grandparents had built. Adding pieces of nostalgia ties in a layer of depth to the look, making it inviting and personal.

The Dos and Don’ts of Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper
If you’re new to using peel-and-stick wallpaper, there are a few things to remember. The adhesive material is designed to stay put, so creating a detailed plan ahead of time is key. Once you’ve mapped out where to place the paper, you’ll need a few tools to ensure it applies properly. A level, sharp scissors, and a standard wallpaper smoother are the most important ones for achieving a professional look.
