With roots in Belgium and the Netherlands, content creator Aysha Sow has crafted a living space in Jersey City that balances minimalist design with strategic pops of color. The 1,895-square-foot house she shares with her son showcases her talent for creating rooms that feel both sophisticated and inviting.

The living room immediately draws attention with its striking terracotta paneling—IKEA IVAR cabinets transformed with Sherwin Williams’ Sun-dried Tomato paint. This warm, earthy tone creates a grounding effect against crisp white walls, while a textured cream rug from Enkay Home adds softness underfoot.
“It feels very open and inviting,” Sow says of her space. “I love the touches of color—it doesn’t feel overwhelming, just the exact right amount for the space.” This thoughtful restraint is evident throughout, where carefully chosen statement pieces are given room to breathe.
The sculptural Lulu & Georgia coffee table serves as the living room’s centerpiece, supported by uniquely curved bases that double as artistic elements. Nearby, a velvet sofa from Meridian in rich caramel tones creates a cozy reading nook, while IKEA’s minimalist floor lamp provides warm ambient lighting. The television, a Samsung Frame, blends seamlessly into the design, displaying artwork when not in use.
Personal touches throughout reflect Sow’s eclectic aesthetic: a chess set ready for play, design books artfully arranged, and landscape photography that complements the room’s natural palette. Paper ceiling lamps from Finnish Design Shop add a soft, diffused glow, while her most significant investment—a Martinez console from CB2 costing $1,661—anchors the space with its architectural presence.
For Sow, the perfect home balances aesthetics with livability. “It feels very cozy and warm but also very creative,” she explains—a space designed not just for visual impact but for daily life with her son. Through her measured approach to color, texture, and form, she’s created rooms that feel simultaneously curated and comfortable, proving that family homes can be both practical and beautifully designed.
