If you’ve ever thought about living in a tiny home, you might’ve wondered if it means sacrificing your style in the process. When it comes to Denise Bayron’s home, the answer is absolutely not. This tiny home is proof that even with limited square footage, you can still achieve maximum style — no matter how big or small your home is.

Location: Oakland, California

Beds/Baths: 1 bed, 1 bath

Occupation: Creative Entrepreneur

With a clawfoot tub and an adorable faux wood-burning fireplace (with storage for tiny wood logs, of course), limited space doesn’t mean limited comfort, either. In fact, in Denise’s home, less square footage only means a cozier ambiance. And, with so many warm wood elements and ample natural light, we can’t imagine a more comfortable space for sipping coffee on a slow morning or decompressing after a long day.

How To Steal Denise’s Look

Where did you purchase the majority of the furniture and decor in this space?

I’ve cultivated a furniture collection by sourcing pieces secondhand. I love the thrill of the hunt, and I’ve found treasures through a variety of channels, including Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, local flea markets, warehouse discount stores, and estate sales.

What is the most expensive thing you’ve purchased for your home and how much did you pay?

The most expensive piece in my home is actually a lucky Craigslist find — a West Elm Brooklyn leather sofa with those iconic boomerang legs! While it may have been the priciest item, I snagged it brand new in the box for half the retail price. Talk about serendipity! To get this beauty home, I enlisted the help of a friendly local delivery guy with a van.

How would you describe your design style?

My style leans towards organic modern. I love the calming effect of natural materials and neutral tones, but I also find myself drawn to the clean lines of mid-century modern pieces. It’s a perfect fit for my Craftsman Bungalow. The MCM furniture complements the architecture beautifully, while the organic elements add warmth and a touch of nature.

Describe what you love most about this space and why.

What captivates me about this space is the original charm, thoughtfully balanced with modern functionality. The wood moldings and French doors whisper stories of the past, and even the smallest details, like the glass and brass doorknobs, add a touch of magic.

Perhaps the most magical touch, though, is the natural light that floods the space. Mornings begin with sunlight streaming through the bedroom window, and as the day progresses, a warm golden glow washes over the living room. The light truly uplifts the spirit.

Speaking of warmth, I also retrofitted the original wood-burning fireplace with an electric option. This allows me to keep the California fire safety regulations in check while still enjoying the cozy ambiance of a crackling fireplace on chilly evenings. It’s the perfect blend of beauty, practicality, and comfort!

But the charm doesn’t stop there! The bathroom boasts the original clawfoot tub, an indulgence that adds a touch of spa-like serenity. And to maximize functionality, I transformed a walk-in closet into a home office, utilizing the original wood shelves and moldings to store my books and craft supplies. It’s a testament to the timeless beauty of these vintage details that they seamlessly integrate with modern needs.
