If you’re looking to spice up your home decor with something truly unique, Sherwin-Williams’ captivating new shade, Kingdom Gold SW 6698 — a.k.a. ‘The Loneliest Color’ — is just what you need.

The company introduced the rich, gold shade as part of their innovative “The Loneliest Color” campaign, designed to spotlight the more unconventional colors. And judging by how easily it can elevate a space, this shade is definitely worth the hype.

How To Use ‘The Loneliest Color’

Being that it’s such a bold color, you may be wondering how you can incorporate it into your home. Luckily, Sue Wadden, the Director of Color Marketing for Sherwin-Williams, has expert advice on just how to do it. Take a look.

It’s all in the details.

This daring color is certainly not for the faint of heart, and luckily, because of this, a little goes a long way. You don’t need much of it to make a big statement, so definitely use it in small doses.

If you’re stuck on how to incorporate the color, Wadden explains an easy way to do it. “One of my favorite ways to incorporate Kingdom Gold SW 6698 is through a feature/accent wall in a large room with ample light, or as a pop of color on trims, doors, or adjacent rooms. It will bring that wow factor to life!”

Display it during social gatherings.

When it comes to hosting, how you decorate your place can really make your party unforgettable. And what better way to create an eye-catching space than by incorporating the bold Kingdom Gold into your decor?

This vibrant color is ideal for occasions where you want to make a statement, and a social gathering is the perfect excuse to try it out. You can display it in your bathroom, entertainment center, or pretty much anywhere you like.

Or, you can take a page from Wadden’s handbook, and let the vibes guide you. “When looking for the perfect space to incorporate this hue, I recommend homeowners turn to areas where vibrant and dramatic energy is the goal – like dining rooms, entryways, or living rooms,” she explains. “Kingdom Gold SW 6698 is the perfect elegant shade to add a touch of something unexpected in rooms where they normally host guests.”

Remember the golden rule.

You may be tempted to go wild with such a vivid color, but keep in mind that balance is key. And fortunately, while Kingdom Gold SW 6698 is technically ‘the loneliest color,’ it actually pairs really well with a range of complementary shades.

According to Wadden, “To create the perfect balance, pair this hue with complementary colors on other walls or in the décor, such as deep blues and purples for contrast — In The Navy SW 9178 and Carnelian SW 7580 are perfect examples — analogous warm oranges or yellows for harmony like Sierra Redwood SW 7598, and neutral tones for balance like Stamped Concrete SW 7655.”

More Tips

When it comes to using a bold color like Kingdom Gold, you have to prioritize the prep work. This involves making sure your walls are clean and smooth to prevent any lumps or discoloration from showing through.

To help the true color shine through, be sure to use a high-quality primer before you begin painting. Then, to finish the job, apply a satin or semi-gloss finish so that it lasts longer, especially if you’re applying it in high-traffic areas.

Finally, keep in mind that your lighting can have a lot to do with how paint colors appear. Natural light shows the truest color, so check your paint samples in the room and at different times of the day to see how it changes with the light.
