For the past 15 years, the paint and coatings brand Valspar has released its Color of the Year. This month, the brand announced its 2024 Color of the Year, Renew Blue (8003-37D). The hue, a balanced blue with a touch of grayed sea green, shows that wellness-focused home decor isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Why Renew Blue?

According to Valspar color experts, Renew Blue was thoughtfully selected to help consumers find balance in their homes. They acknowledged that homeowners want to make their homes a sanctuary of self-care—a place where they can focus on personal well-being, relax and recharge.

“Renew Blue is an incredibly versatile and all-season shade that anyone can envision in their space. Inspired by fleeting elements like fog, mist, clouds, and glacier lakes, Renew Blue elevates the everyday mood, encourages self-expression, and evokes a feeling of balance and calm, with a twist of unique spontaneity,” Sue Kim, Valspar’s director of color marketing, said in a press release. “Blue is a classic shade that has become the new neutral for today’s home and can be mixed and matched to fit a variety of design styles and applications.”

A New Approach for Valspar

In the past, Valspar released 12 Colors of the Year. This year, the brand has a new approach, with just one Color of the Year.

“The 2024 Color of the Year kicks off a simplified approach in color inspiration. Our home is a space where we are creating a sense of comfort and slowing down. Having one color adaptable enough to lead any design project helps consumers feel in control of their space and their vision,” shares Kim.
