When it comes to celebrity homes, no one does it quite like royalty. However, when you think about the residence of the royal family, you’d assume they live in London’s Buckingham Palace, one of the most famous royal residences of all time that serves as the administrative headquarters of UK’s monarch. While you wouldn’t be totally wrong, the palace is only one among the many residences King Charles inherited following the Queen’s passing.

Within that, royal family members Prince William and Princess Kate, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, live scattered across the globe, yet not a cent shy of luxury. Here’s everything to know about where the royal family lives and who will actually reside in the Buckingham Palace.

The Buckingham Palace

The most famous royal residence in the United Kingdom, King Charles inherited the Buckingham Palace following the Queen’s passing and will reside there permanently during his reign. Located in Westminster, construction of the 775-room palace began in 1825 and has served as the official London residence for all monarchs since Queen Victoria’s reign. Among the 775 rooms are 19 State Rooms for grandiose events, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 78 bathrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, and 92 offices for the King, Royal Family, and their staff.

Where Do King Charles III and Queen Camilla Live?

With an impressive real estate portfolio extending across England, Scotland and Wales, King Charles III has no shortage of homes to choose from. This include the six estates he and Camilla (now Queen Consort) owned, as well as the inhereted homes from Her Majesty, including her preciously loved Balmoral residence. Upon his crowning, he left behind his main home, Clarence House, near St. James’s Palace in London. The four-story home is faced in pale stucco and has been extensively remodeled after being heavily damaged in the Second World War.

Where Do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Live?

Following their decision to distance themselves from the confines of royal lifestyle, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle relocated from Frogmore Cottage in Windsor (which they lent to Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank) to several impressive estates around North America.

One of those estates included Tyler Perry’s Beverly Hills mansion, who let them stay there while they navigated such a major life transition. Following a stint in Vancouver, Canada and Los Angeles, the couple prioritized giving their children a stable home and settled down in Montecito, California.

Purchased for $14.65 million, the beachside home is massive, featuring lush gardens and a chicken coop. “One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees,” Markle shared about the property. “See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, ‘My love, it’s us.’ And now every day when Archie goes by us, he says, ‘Hi, Momma. Hi, Papa.'”

Where do Prince William and Princess Kate Live?

Wanting to be closer to their children’s new school in Berkshire, Prince and Princess of Wales William and Kate relocated from Kensington Palace in London to their new home, Adelaide Cottage, in Windsor. The home is just half a mile from Windsor Castle, which Queen Elizabeth used as her primary residence in her final years.

The cottage was commissioned by King William IV for his wife, Queen Adelaide, in 1831, and is said to be built on a structure from the seventeenth century. The home has of course been updated since they moved in, more suited for the couple’s three children: Prince GeorgePrincess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
