While the coldest months of the year are settling in, it’s normal to want to add cozy corners to your home. Adding a sense of warmth to your space can be done in numerous ways and it’s much easier than you think. It’s likely you already have the necessary items in your home, so you can make meaningful changes by spending little to no money at all. From lighting, color, and texture, to using techniques like layering, you can introduce coziness, comfort, and warmth without clashing with your existing aesthetic.

If you’re looking for ideas to create this look, use these six tips to instantly add warmth that’ll leave you snuggled up for the rest of the winter.

Feature colors that resemble nature.

Think about the warm colors of nature that you see daily. The browns, mustard yellows, greys, creamy neutrals, blues, and most commonly, greens. Add a cozy feeling to your home by implementing them using furniture, small decor pieces, wall art, or plants. Without the warmer color tones, your home can appear and feel cold and unwelcoming. So, warm it up with darker and warmer colors that resemble nature. It feels natural, and grounding, and adds a neutral, rustic aspect to each space.

Use a fireplace.

If you’re lucky enough to have a built-in fireplace in your home or have just added one to your home, dust it off and put it to use. There’s nothing like bringing your family or friends together to gather around the fireplace to warm up from the freezing temperatures. For architectural fireplaces that may be traditional, it’s best to embrace the old design. Design around it so that it still complements the other spaces in your home. If you don’t have a fireplace, don’t fret. There are plenty of stylish, electric options that will work just as well.

Add textural elements.

Adding elements and decor pieces that have patterns and different textures can help piece everything together. Opt for rugs. They offer a depth and dimension that many other home decor accent pieces can’t. This is through the different materials used: wool, cotton, and others to create the fuzzy and furry feeling that appeals to your sense of touch.

Other textured accessories include textured wall art, blankets, and plush pillows. Different textures give you a sense of comfort that will leave you wrapped in a blanket drinking hot cocoa on a chilly night. As far as designs and patterns, find ones that pair well with solid colors and layers.

Layer your accessories.

Adapting the layering technique is the perfect way to display your personality, and add a little more depth, and your decor skills. Using your smaller home decor accessories to create layering pieces can make this technique easier for you. Opt for mid-size trays and flattering books to help layer and stack. For example, use a tray to group decor that complements each other such as a flower vase, candle, and knickknack. Play around with the ever-changing process of layering and stick to what you like.

Warm it up with wooden pieces.

Known for its natural beauty, different shades, and warmth, opting for wooden furniture pieces or features will instantly make your space feel like it’s wrapped in comfort all on its own. You can do this through your TV stand, coffee tables, or your very own DIY project like an accent wall.

Implement a glowing effect with candles.

There’s no glow like a candlelight glow. Use candles of all sizes and group them. Light them up and experience the instant, warming effect they’ll have on your home. They may be simple element, but they can have a lasting effect and create a great impact.
