Searching for Black designers and makers on Wayfair just got easier. The mega online home furnishing retailer launched its Celebrate Black Makers initiative in February. This initiative makes it easier for shoppers to discover and support products by Black-owned businesses.
“Through Celebrate Black Makers, we hope our diverse customer base will have the opportunity to shop everyday products for their homes made by Black designers and makers, while also exploring the many unique styles and design aesthetics available to them on our platform,” said Shardé Marchewski, Wayfair’s Head of Supplier Diversity.
Wayfair launched the initiative in February, during Black History Month, but it continues to be useful year-round.
A part of the Celebrate Black Makers initiative is dedicated to expanding the products Wayfair sells by Black-owned businesses. The company created a landing page where consumers easily could find products through the “Black-Owned or Designed” search filter.
Providing Underrepresented Makers With Resources To Soar
Through the Celebrate Black Makers also initiative, the e-commerce site launched the Supplier Diversity @ Wayfair program. The program provides underrepresented makers with resources to help their businesses grow. “At Wayfair, we recognize that we’re one of the largest home retailers on the planet, and we’re committed to leveraging our platform to elevate underrepresented suppliers both throughout our business and across the home industry,” Marchewski said.
The husband-and-wife duo Janine Hays and Bryan Mason are two members of with the Supplier Diversity @ Wayfair program. They are the founders of AphroChic, which is a company celebrating the African Diaspora. They design artisan products, and have a podcast, a magazine and a design studio.
“Design is diverse by nature because the world is diverse,” Mason said. “We don’t need to work to make design inclusive. We need to stop working to make the industry exclusive.”

The Celebrate Black Makers initiative also highlights makers, like Candice Liter Art + Interiors, CLEAN DESIGN HOME and AphroChic. Explore the landing page to learn more about each maker, their passion and the products they create. Discover pieces, like lush bathrobes, stunning accent mirrors, rugs, furniture and more.
“Our goal is that this program will not only support our mission to help everyone, anywhere, create their feelings of home, but also drive meaningful impact to these suppliers’ businesses and create additional momentum for others in our industry to further DEI in their commercial strategies,” Marchewski said.
