Lowe’s continues to help families who have been impacted by the deadly storms sweeping the South and Midwest. On April 19, several severe thunderstorms turned into multiple tornadoes spreading across several states. On May 13, the Lowe’s of Shawnee distributed more than 700 relief buckets that included cleanup supplies for residents.

As reported by Oklahoma News 4, employees of Lowe’s of Shawnee also provided 1,000 free barbeque meals to residents in addition to the free cleanup supplies. The community event was held at the Lowe’s of Shawnee, located at 4817 N. Kickapoo Ave. in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

In April, Lowe’s donated $500,000 in emergency funds to homeowners in the same region. Lowe’s official press release stated the donations were distributed among their disaster relief partners, including the American Red Cross. In addition to providing donations, Lowe’s also contributed to helping homeowners find emergency shelters.

Previously, Lowe’s employees went door-to-door to help those in need. They visited cities such as Little Rock, Arkansas, Coralville, Iowa, and Cape Girardeau, Missouri to assist with relief efforts.

“It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation caused by the extreme tornadoes that have impacted our associates and customers across the South and Midwest,” said Marvin Ellison, Lowe’s chairman and CEO. “Our stores and associates are committed to providing assistance at a time when our neighbors need us more than ever, and this donation will help our nonprofit and Pro partners respond to critical needs.”

Lowe’s is currently matching employees’ donations, too. Last year, they were able to assist more than 3,000 workers who needed emergency funds by raising more than $4.1 million in financial aid.
