House Tours: Three Kitchen Features in Ayesha Selden's Kitchen We're Obsessed With

August 9, 2023 at 11:11 PM PST

Season two of Home & Texture’s House Tours started off with a bang. Art collector Ayesha Selden’s south Los Angeles home snatched our edges. The art collector started her collector journey in 2021, shortly before moving into her home, and has since acquired close to 100 pieces of fine art—with no intention of slowing down any time soon. While art pieces are present throughout every room in her home, Selden’s kitchen is a work of art on its own.

Selden’s magnificent kitchen is where she spends most of her time, and we can see why. The culinary area, which blends into her family room, is chic, comfortable, and perfect for hosting guests.

Here are three reasons why Ayesha Selden’s kitchen makes us swoon:

The Massive Kitchen Island

Selden’s kitchen island is 7 feet long and is the perfect place to hang out with friends and family. Even Kelis has pulled up a seat to this island. “This is where I spend most of my time congregating, so it was important in the design of my kitchen,” shares Selden in the episode. This kitchen island is the perfect place to display spreads, food prep, and dine. When not in use, you can decorate with a large bouquet of flowers, like Selden.

The Hidden Kitchen Concept

“Myself and my designer, we worked pretty tirelessly to make sure that everything was relatively hidden,” shares Selden. “In some kitchens, where they have the microwave maybe above the range, we have ours hidden beneath the island. Most of my appliances were also hidden as well.” The only appliances that are open in the kitchen are the wine fridge and the stove, which is a special order and absolutely stunning with its gold control knobs. Hidden kitchens are a great option for reducing visual clutter, space optimization, aesthetic appeal, and having a “wow” factor.

Water Station for Nip Hussle

Selden’s dog, Nip Hussle, is an important member of the family. He has his own watering station in the kitchen, and it oozes with luxury. “I’ve put his [Nip Hussle’s] bowls right here. I had it outfitted specifically for him. I have his own water filler right here underneath the kitchen counter,” says Selden. If you want a luxe watering station for your furry family member like Selden, create a space in your kitchen for beautiful water bowls. If you don’t have a place to install a specially-made faucet for the watering station, get a large water dispenser as a simple filling option.
