There’s something magical happening around dinner tables all around. From intimate apartment gatherings to curated pop-up experiences, the supper club movement has evolved into something far more significant than a meal—it’s become a cultural phenomenon. Today’s supper clubs marry artistry, design excellence, and genuine community-building in ways that feel both revolutionary and deeply necessary.
This cultural shift is truly why the Home & Texture team carved out space in our Design Vanguard awards with our “Curator” category, highlighting some of our favorite creators who craft some of the most intimate and beautiful dining experiences. From Courtnee Futch-Brinson‘s Brown Butter Supper Club in Atlanta, GA, to Eddy Cruz‘s Nine26 Supper Club, these visionaries are redefining what it means to gather. Many people, especially Black and Brown creatives and professionals, are seeking out these spaces for more community and expression—places where they can show up fully as themselves, celebrate their heritage, and connect with others who understand the importance of creating beauty and meaning in every detail.
The question isn’t whether supper clubs are having a moment—it’s why now, and why do so many of us feel drawn to pull up a chair? The answer lies in our collective hunger for something deeper than what traditional dining or socializing offers. We’re craving intimacy in an increasingly digital world, seeking spaces where creativity and culture intersect and building the communities we wish we’d always had access to.
Why Dinner Clubs Are Trending:
We’re Starving for Real Connection
In an era of endless scrolling and digital communication, there’s an undeniable appetite for face-to-face interaction that feels genuine, and unhurried. Supper clubs offer what screens cannot—the warmth of shared laughter, the spontaneity of real conversation, and the kind of connection that only happens when people gather with intention. These intimate gatherings strip away the performative nature of social media and replace it with presence, creating spaces where vulnerability and authenticity are not just welcomed but celebrated.
Exclusivity That Actually Includes
The intimate nature of supper clubs—often capped at 12 to 20 guests—creates a paradox that works beautifully. While limited seating creates exclusivity and demand, the intentional curation of these spaces often prioritizes inclusion in ways that traditional fine dining never has. Hosts are building tables that reflect the diversity of their communities, centering voices and faces that have historically been marginalized in these types of spaces.
Design as Storytelling
The aesthetic experience of a supper club extends far beyond the plate. From the table settings to the lighting, from the music selection to the floral arrangements, every element is considered and cohesive. Those who host understand that design is another language for storytelling, and they’re using it to craft experiences that engage all the senses. The attention to detail transforms a simple dinner into an immersive journey, proving that beautiful, well-designed experiences don’t have to exist only in high-end restaurants or exclusive venues—they can be created anywhere people care enough to make them happen.
Building Community on Our Own Terms
Perhaps most importantly, the supper club movement represents a reclamation of space and community-building on our own terms. For many Black and Brown people, these gatherings offer what traditional networking events and social circles haven’t—spaces designed by us, for us, where our full selves are not just tolerated but celebrated. They’re antidotes to code-switching, to feeling like outsiders, to searching for belonging in places that were never meant to hold us. At these tables, we’re not waiting for an invitation to someone else’s party. We’re hosting our own, and everyone who sits down is meant to be there.
