Ribbons and Bows Have Officially Entered the Holiday Decor Chat

We are quickly approaching the holiday season. December is officially here, and with Thanksgiving and the leftover turkey behind us, it’s time to start talking about holiday decor. To be clear, this is a bit different than holiday decorations, which tend to be about the tree and festive greenery. Instead, it refers to simple home elements that are infused with the holiday spirit. Of the trends this holiday season, one of the most popular is ribbons and bows.

The trend follows much of what has been seen on the runway and in fashion, with the balletcore aesthetic. But, instead of soft fabrics and muted tones, the ribbon trend leans into the deep colors of the season—think crimson reds and rich black velvets. Even more compelling is how easy it is to recreate. With a handful of craft store supplies, you can give your home a holiday transformation that’s beyond Instagram-worthy. Keep reading to see how to incorporate this chic trend into your holiday décor this season.

Wreaths

Ok, we’re not saying you have to completely ditch your tried-and-true Christmas wreath. However, if you want an interesting take on the traditional pine style, you can consider this wreath look to try. It’s simple and elegant and embraces the ribbon bow trend head-on. For an ultra-luxe look, take a cue from this style and look for a wreath that blends velvet and plaid materials. Then, place it against a dark backdrop, such as the front door, mantle, or deep-colored wall.

Candlesticks

The great thing about this trend is that it can absolutely work with your traditional holiday decorations. This look pairs larger bows with tall candlesticks and simple gold holders for an elegant display. However, if you prefer a more minimalist look, smaller bows crafted from thin ribbons will work best. Whichever style you choose, just be sure to consider the material of the ribbon. A matte style can add to the effortless look, while satin may look a bit dressier.

Glassware

For large gatherings, parties, or celebrations, try pairing the ribbon trend with your favorite glassware to give it a chic and polished feel. This example uses dainty black velvet bows tied onto Champagne flutes, but you don’t have to stick to that script. Small ribbons, such as these, play well with coupe glasses and classic stemware.
