Another holiday is approaching, and with it comes sales. Presidents’ Day is a federal American holiday originally recognizing George Washington’s birthday. The holiday is celebrated annually on the third Monday in February.  This year, Presidents’ Day will fall on Monday, February 20th. 

Like many holidays, Presidents’ Day has become a day to get errands done around the house that you’ve been putting off for weeks because of work and the demands of life. It’s also a time when retailers mark down items to make room for new stock in the spring. “Historically, new furniture is discounted in January and February to make room for new furniture that will come out at the end of winter for spring,” Rachel Rothman, Chief Technologist and Director of Engineering at the Good Housekeeping Institute, says to Good Housekeeping.

Now is the best time to refresh your home’s sheets, towels, and comforters. Like furniture and mattresses, retailers are bringing in new inventory and trying to get rid of old stock. Patio Furniture 

Spring is around the corner, meaning the weather will get warmer, and the demand for patio furniture will soar. Retailers are preparing for the demand and currently stocking their stores and websites with new inventory. This means the price for patio furniture and other outdoor furniture items will be full-priced rather than discounted. If you’re planning on finding inventory from last year, it may be difficult, as many closeouts happen in November, December, and January. The same advice goes for gas grills. It’s best to wait until the end of spring and summer to make these purchases. 

Home improvement materials

If one of your goals is to get more into household DIY projects, you should wait before stocking up on materials and gear this Presidents Day. The best time to take advantage of sales is during Father’s Day and the holidays. Black Friday sales are ideal for purchasing home improvement materials and gear, such as cordless drills.
