Don’t be fooled by the name of this shot: while it’s a delicious and sweet combination of flavors, there’s no actual green tea in it. But, on the bright side, this shot got its name because it tastes like a sweetened green tea. Not to mention it goes down just as easy as green tea.
With a combination of two different liquors, lemon-lime soda and sweet and sour mix, the green tea shot packs a punch of flavor. With the slight kick of the alcohol, the fizz and citrus of the soda and the tanginess of the sweet and sour mix, the flavors mesh well together to create a green-tea adjacent shot.
One of the perks about this shot is that it’s low in calories, only around 140. You can even replace the lemon-lime soda with a diet version for less calories. This small shot can even be turned into a drink, just double the recipe and serve over ice in your favorite cocktail glass. Garnish with a slice of lemon or lime for an extra touch.
Why Is It Called a Green Tea Shot?
So, now that we know what’s in the green tea shot, why exactly is it named after green tea? Well, for one, it not only tastes like a sweet version of iced green tea, but it looks like it as well. The color of the sweet and sour mix with the liquor and soda makes the shot a light green color.
Whether you want a refreshing shot on a hot summer day or just looking to take a shot or two before going out to at a restaurant, this is the perfect choice. Also, if you’re not a huge fan of a tequila or vodka shot, or don’t like the taste of alcohol, opting for the green tea shot is a great option.
