We’re back with another episode of Home & Texture’s House Tours season two. This time, we’re welcomed into creative director Marissa Calhoun’s 1920’s Spanish-Style home. Located in Inglewood, California, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home allowed Calhoun to lay roots down after moving to Los Angeles five years ago. “Having a pandemic and trying to house hunt — all of those things led me here. And so I feel really grateful to call this place home,” Calhoun shares in the episode.

Hints of Bubblegum Pink

“When I first saw the house, the whole house was a bubblegum pink,” Calhoun shares. Instead of completely getting rid of the bubblegum hue, Calhoun kept elements of the shade throughout the house.

You can find whimsical hints of bubblegum pink throughout her favorite space in her home — the kitchen. “It’s my favorite place because I love to cook, I love to sit around the table and have a cup of tea — it’s really a space that feels warm and inviting and all the things that I want to feel in a kitchen,” says Calhoun.

Take a stroll through her kitchen, and you’ll find pops of pink accenting her bright, white Spanish tile floors, pink dishes and appliances, and a custom breakfast nook with pink upholstered seating.

A Bold and Bright Powder Room

Calhoun believes that a powder room should be a space where you can have fun experimenting with various hues and textures. She wanted the space to be warm and inviting and executed that with bold and bright colors. Her powder room is a beautiful marriage of colors and textures, including a safari-inspired wallpaper accent wall.

A Gathering Space

Breaking bread with friends and family is important to the creative director. This is why Calhoun designed her dining room as the perfect gathering spot in her home. “I wanted the walls around my dining table to really wrap us in love, wrap us in memories, and really reflect where we’ve been and where we’re going,” Calhoun shared in the episode.

The rich textures and tones in her dining space are a representation of her lived experiences, interests, and tastes.
