This trend aligns perfectly with the Millennial homeownership demographic, as most Millennials were young when “The Little Mermaid” debuted in 1989. Now as homeowners, that same group is finding that tapping into trends they enjoyed as kids makes for great home decor.
Think of mermaidcore as the modern version of the coastal grandmother aesthetic. Instead of opting for muted seashells, you can upgrade to pearls and iridescent accents. Even shapes play a big part in this feverish trend. For example, scalloped edges make great for rugs, mirrors, and lampshades, which can add a playful yet posh element to any home.
Last but not least, don’t forget about color and textures. Besides the cool and calmness of blue, you can add other colors such as pinks, oranges, and greens as well.
