Sleeping in a luxurious hotel bed is a real treat. And fortunately, you don’t need to check into a 5-star hotel to experience that same level of comfort in your own bedroom. Instead, if you use the right techniques, you can recreate the look and feel of an upscale hotel bed right at home.

To learn how to turn your bedroom into a luxury retreat, here are six tips for recreating a 5-star hotel bed.

Go back to the basics.

The foundation of every 5-star hotel bed begins with high-quality basics. And while quality products tend to be more costly, your body will thank you for investing in your health later.

To curate a stunning bedroom fit for a king or queen, be sure to shop for a premium mattress and a set of cushy pillows that provide an appropriate balance of support and comfort. Additionally, look for soft, breathable sheets made from natural fibers like cotton or linen as they typically provide a luxurious feel against the skin.

Pick a neutral color scheme.

Part of the appeal of a 5-star hotel experience is in the way the room is decorated. Neutral colors like white, beige, or gray provide an air of sophistication. Plus, they make it easy to mix and match varying layers of linens without clashing patterns or colors.

Additionally, neutral colors are helpful for calming the mind, which is especially important for achieving quality sleep. So, if you want a luxurious experience without the hefty price tag, opt for neutral-colored sheets and duvets — particularly in light shades — to create tranquil vibes for your bedroom.

Layer on the sheets.

Now that you have quality bedding, it’s time to put it to good use. 5-star hotels typically layer their sheets in order to create a soft and comfortable sleeping experience. To do this, start by laying your fitted sheet down, followed by a flat sheet to keep you extra cozy and warm. Then, for a clean appearance, fold down the top edge of your sheets, making sure to tuck in any loose edges to polish it up.

Add a cozy duvet or comforter.

You can’t have a 5-star sleep experience without a fluffy duvet or comforter to sink into. So pick out a quality duvet insert or comforter, taking into consideration the level of warmth for your climate and personal preferences.

Then, layer it over the top sheet before folding it back slightly at the foot of the bed for a clean look. Make sure that your duvet or comforter is evenly distributed across the bed for an even more polished appearance free from bumps and wrinkles. Building layers is of utmost importance if you want to achieve that plush, hotel bed look.

Incorporate decorative pillows.

Pillows aren’t just a cozy place to lay your head, they can really elevate the visual appeal of your bedroom, too. Pick out a selection of decorative pillows in varying sizes and textures.

It’s common for hotels to use European shams placed against the headboard as a stylish backdrop, but you can use any type of decorative pillow that suits your fancy.

The key is to layer standard or king-size pillows against the headboard, followed by smaller accent pillows in complementary colors or patterns right in front of that. When placing your pillows, be sure to arrange them in a triangle shape for a balanced display that invites you to rest.

Finish with a throw blanket.

Now that your bed is properly made up, place a throw blanket on top to add character to your bed. Pick a soft, textured throw in a complementing color or pattern to spice up your bedding. Then, drape it across the foot of the bed for added charm.

Not only does a throw blanket enhance the look of your decor, but it also provides an extra layer of warmth and coziness for chilly nights as well.
