We moved into our new place in April—just a few miles from where we were before—but as anyone who has ever moved knows, it doesn’t matter how close or far you go; starting over always requires intention. Especially when it comes to making a house feel like home. For us, that shift started with a rug.

Specifically, the Kano Garden rug from Ruggable’s Gracie Collection.

Gracie, the heritage wallpaper house known for hand-painted chinoiserie panels, partnered with Ruggable to translate their iconic motifs into washable rugs, bridging 18th-century artistry with everyday practicality. And while the entire collection is beautiful, the Kano Garden design felt like it was meant for us.

We placed the 9×12 rug in our living room. Our old rug was an 8×10—too small for the new space and missing that feeling I was craving: warmth, personality, soul, and an artsy vibe. This one delivered immediately. The colors feel like a painting with rich indigo blues, soft blush, and golden ochre. The imagery is nature-forward but not precious. It feels like something collected, a piece with history.

And yet, it fits right into our daily life. Our son is 13 months old, and washability was a non-negotiable requirement. This rug needed to handle crumbs, spills, and sticky fingers without sacrificing style. That’s what makes the Ruggable x Gracie collaboration so smart—it’s design for real life.

Now, when I step into the living room, it feels lived in, but in the best way. The Kano Garden rug brought in texture, color, and a sense of calm. It’s a visual anchor, but it doesn’t overpower the space. Our boucle couch, fireplace, and coffee table now feel like they belong to something larger—a room with a point of view.

Sometimes it’s the smallest details that help us settle in. This rug reminded me that home doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to feel like you.

Gracie Kano Garden Multicolor Tufted Rug

The Gracie Kano Garden Multicolor Rug brings an artful fusion of history and elegance to your home. Inspired by an 18th-century Japanese screen, this machine-washable rug showcases a breathtaking hand-painted scene of blooming cherry blossoms, golden clouds, and vividly colored birds. Framed by a traditional stylized border, its rich palette of deep blues, soft pinks, emerald greens, and warm golds makes it a timeless statement piece for any space.
