Luxury Laundry Brand The Laundress Relaunches After Major Recall

July 20, 2023 at 8:12 PM PST

Don’t call it a comeback. The Laundress has relaunched its luxury laundry products after recalling all of their products last fall. According to the brand’s website, “On December 1st, 2022, and on March 31, 2023, we issued voluntary recalls of The Laundress products. On December 27th, 2022, we issued a product withdrawal of additional The Laundress products.” The company experienced a bacteria contamination issue and froze all of its sales as a result of the recall.

This time the brand has a more streamlined collection with formulations made in a new facility with tighter safety measures. The Laundress laundry relaunch includes its most beloved products, but this time, in higher-concentrated formulations.

The Relaunch

It took the brand six months to relaunch after experiencing a major recall. During that time, The Laundress, founded by two New York City fashion executives founded but now owned by Unilever, did research on how to make its products safer with transparency at the forefront. “We are determined to make things right and live up to our customer’s highest expectations. That’s why it’s our #1 priority to share the steps we have taken to ensure our fabric care solutions are safe for you,” says the site.

In an Instagram post, the brand announced its relaunch with mixed reviews from customers. Some were excited about updated formulas with safety in mind, while others expressed that they were still waiting on a refund for the recalled products.

The brand was founded in 2004 but was bought by Unilever in 2019. They built a cult following due to their signature scents and luxury collaborations with Le Labo and singer John Mayer.

Even though the relaunch doesn’t include fragrances from these collaborations, it does have its signature “Classic” fragrance which has notes of sparkling lime zest, jasmine, and sandalwood.

The new products made with bio-based ingredients are available on The Laundress.
