The best thing about most Christmas Crack recipes is that they are easily customizable. You can use different types of crackers, chocolates, nuts or even add toppings to suit your preferences. Add mini marshmallows to give it a taste that resembles roasting marshmallows and making s’mores by a fire. Or top it with a little bit of cinnamon to give it even more of a Christmas time flavor. Go crazy and have fun with this easy recipe this holiday season.
Christmas Crack Recipe
Ingredients
1 sleeve of saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as pecans or walnuts)
Festive sprinkles or toppings (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture is smooth and begins to boil. Let it boil for about 3 minutes without stirring.
- Carefully pour the hot caramel mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly to cover them completely.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes. The caramel will bubble and spread over the crackers.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel layer. Let them sit for a few minutes to soften and melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the surface using a spatula.
- If you’re using nuts, sprinkle them over the melted chocolate while it’s still soft.
- For a festive touch, you can add sprinkles or any other toppings you prefer.
- Let the Christmas Crack cool at room temperature until the chocolate sets, or you can speed up the process by placing it in the refrigerator.
- Once completely cooled and set, break the Christmas Crack into pieces. Enjoy!
