“I am thrilled to share my love of Prosecco with everyone through Viarae. It’s carefully crafted, deliciously crisp, and the perfect beverage to deliberate La Dolce Vita,” Rae gushed in a press release surrounding the new brand.

Viarae and the Push for Representation

Issa Rae is never one to shy away from speaking out about representation in the entertainment industry. And now that she’s stepping into the wine business, her push for representation is even more clear. Each wine bottle is encased in beautiful brown and gold packaging, a nod from Issa Rae to the Black women in the wine industry.

A growing number of Black women have taken up space in the wine industry in recent years. The industry, notoriously known for its lack of diversity, is now seeing a boost in representation thanks to these trailblazers. Viarae not only celebrates friendship but also encourages diversity and inclusivity within the wine industry. In her interview with Cosmopolitan, Rae shared her hopes for Viarae,

“I’m very much acknowledging that I’m a novice in this space and that there are other people that came before me. I had an amazing conversation with one of the McBride sisters [of Black Girl Magic Wines] this past week, and she was kind of giving me the layout of the land. I’m coming to another wine shop owner, a Black woman in New York, who bought out her own wine shop from previous owners. There are so many people in this space actually doing the work and actually carving out a name. I hope that I’m able to live on and also, just by being so visible, that other people will be prompted to learn about who’s already doing it and doing it better.
