Budget Friendly Housewarming Gifts That You Can Do Yourself

July 12, 2023 at 7:00 PM PST

So you’ve been invited to a housewarming party and you’re short on time and money for a gift. No worries! You can find the perfect housewarming gift at a low cost and you can do it yourself with just a little creativity and originality. Many think that housewarming gifts have to be big and extravagant, but they don’t. No matter the size of the gift, they’ll be appreciative you’re celebrating this huge accomplishment with them.

While it’s easy to go the simple route and buy the typical fruit basket, wine bottle, or flower arrangements, crafting your gift yourself adds a touch of thoughtfulness to the gift and makes it more personal.  If you find yourself struggling with the best suitable gift, then look no further. Here is a list of budget-friendly housewarming gifts to make your gift-giving experience much easier.

Gift Basket

The options are endless when it comes to making a gift basket. It can be filled and stocked with all sorts of items. Get personal and custom and stock it with items you know for sure the homeowners will like. Do they like to bake or drink coffee? Are they lovers of nice scents? If so, you might want to create a basket full of candles, oils, and lotions or full of coffee mugs and ingredients. Think of these questions when buying your products. Your basket can also be filled with random home essentials like towels, cooking utensils, candles, or plants. It’s all up to you!

All you need is a basket of your choice that can be found at your local home goods store. Depending on the number of items you’d like to gift, choose the size basket that is best suitable. Pick out your products, grab some gifting paper to put in the bottom of the basket and a card to congratulate them, and stamp your love. Fix the items up in the basket to appeal to the eye, and you’re good to go!

Front Door Wreath

Every new homeowner loves front porch decor, so help get them started by creating a front door wreath for them! It’s simple, fun, and easy. Making a wreath is often much cheaper than buying one with all the embellishments included. All you’ll need is your wreath as your base. Choose your favorite embellishments that will compliment any home, like faux flowers, ribbons, bows, and greenery. Grab a hot glue gun and any extra wiring needed to attach pieces and hang it up. If you want to personalize it, add a wooden letter with the first letter of their last name.

Roped Coaster Set

Coasters are a great accent piece to add to any home and obviously, drinks will be served at this party. It’s only right to create your very own coaster set and put them to use. You only need a few materials: a hot glue gun, scissors, a base for the coaster—like lightweight wood or cardboard—a pen, and rope of your choice.

For rope materials, you can use manilla rope or nautical rope. Trace out the shape of the base, cut it out, and start circling the rope until you get to the point of the picture above. Use the glue gun to make sure the rope is sturdy and in place holding the circular shape. Keep going until you’re satisfied with the size of the coaster, cut the ends, glue it on the base, and you’ve just created a high-end coaster all on your own.

Spray Paint a Welcome Door Mat

One thing every home needs is a welcome door mat. Besides, it’s one of the first things you see when approaching a home and sets the tone for the rest of the house. If you’re having trouble finding a doormat in store, this is your chance to have some fun and create one. A simple coir mat will do the trick. Grab some paint, paintbrushes, and some large letter stencils and prints to help you align your wording and symbols. Get creative with funny phrases or get personal and add the homeowner’s surname.

From gift baskets and door wreaths to welcome mats and coaster sets, you can do so much with so little and gift the new homeowners something they’ll never forget.
