These Minimal Upgrades Are the Secret to Better Showers, According to TikTok

September 26, 2023 at 5:28 PM PST

Simply feeling warm water on your skin reduces stress and promotes relaxation. So, it’s no surprise that upgrading your showers elevates the quality of the experience. When we want to take our washes to the next level, our routine is the first thing we look to change. Evidently, that’s why sharing shower essentials is trending on TikTok. ICYMI, the hashtag #showerroutine has over 2.8 billion views, with users giving insights into their nightly self-care. From the best exfoliators to quick methods for taking an “everything” shower — bathing, shaving, and washing your hair in one sitting — you can find it all. But when you’ve already found your perfect products and your shower experience still doesn’t feel enjoyable, how can you improve it?

A quick scroll through #showerupgradeideas shows DIYers rearranging and dismantling bathrooms to make room for new additions that make tending to hygiene feel good. These upgrades can be effortless, like adding a bath mat to the shower floor, or complete makeovers, like retiling the walls. While bathroom renovations are cool projects, they require a lot of time and work (sometimes a plumber, too). Minimal enhancements, however, can create positive results in minutes. Check out some of our favorite ideas for showers that you’ll never want to end.

1. Decorate Your Shower Head With Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is a tree native to Australia. Its oil, made from the leaves, is a common ingredient in wellness, skincare, and other products. Still, these uses aren’t the only reasons you might want to decorate your shower with eucalyptus. Research suggests the substance has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, pain-relieving, and muscle-relaxing effects. The hot steam from your shower releases these properties, so you reap the benefits of all that goodness each time. Plus, if nothing else, it’s aesthetically pleasing and believed to relieve congestion, perfect for those stuffy fall nights.

You don’t need to do anything special to the plant to add it to your shower. Grab some branches, tie them together, place the bundle above your shower head, and enjoy!

2. Add Functional Organizers for Your Products

When your products are scattered, cramped, and oozing contents all over the place, you might not have the best wash day. Occasionally, you may skip or give up on those everything showers to avoid spending too much time in the mess. If this describes you, you should consider investing in adhesive wall organizers to store your stuff. These organizers are available in different styles and materials to match the vibe and fixtures in any bathroom.

Be sure your organizers are for use in water. While you can choose a mounted option, going with adhesive means no drilling and allows you to swap styles easily.

3. Switch to a Rain Shower Head

Visual appeal is the focal point in interior design, and a rain shower head definitely falls into the cute but not-so-functional category. Although these gorgeous additions live at resorts and hotels, making them perfect for incorporating a touch of vacation charm, their water pressure is notoriously low. Hence, the rain effect. Certainly, that poses a problem for some, but if you’re a get-in-and-out showerer who wants novelty, add one to your cart.

4. Treat Yourself to a Towel Warmer

Do we really need to explain the genius of this one? While a towel warmer may seem like an excessive luxury fit for a spa, the people who put socks in the dryer to feel extra cozy and warm get the hype. Unless you like to shower in low temperatures, the odds are that you hate bracing the cold after a steamy twenty minutes. With this addition, you won’t have to. Set your warmer near the shower and delight in the toasty plush fabric when ready.
