For many Millennials, IKEA was the go-to place they shopped at when purchasing furniture for their first apartment outside of their parents’ homes. The brand has been consistent over the years in providing affordable pieces that are sleek, modern, and aesthetically pleasing. Now, IKEA is taking a trip down memory lane in celebration of its 80th anniversary.

That’s So Vintage

Scroll through furniture resell sites and you’ll see that vintage IKEA pieces cost a pretty penny. Fortunately, the beloved Swedish furniture brand is giving its fans the chance to purchase vintage pieces without breaking the bank. In its newest Nytillverkad collection, the brand resurrects designs from the company’s 80 years of being in business.

The line, which first debuted at Milan Design Week 2023, includes pieces in styles from the past but with functionality updates to adapt to the world we live in today. You can find everything from bedding to furniture to accessories.

“At IKEA, the past, the present, and the future are all connected,” Fedrika Inger, managing director at IKEA of Sweden, said in a press release. “We’ve designed many functional and beautiful home furnishing products during the last 80 years, and it’s only natural that we get curious about the achievements in the past,” Inger continues.

The Nytillverkad collection will have multiple launches over the next few years as IKEA aims to provide its customers with updated versions of designs from the past. “With Nytillverkad, we are returning to the future, again,” said Inger.

A Fresh and Colorful Update

Items in this collection will keep the essence of their original designs but with an update in color and materials.

“This collection is loud, colorful, and fun,” Karin Gustavsson, creative leader of the Nytillverkad collection, said in the press release.

The collection is now available online and in stores, with iconic hand-picked items from the brand’s archive.
