Hacienda La Esmeralda
Known as the true origin coffee, Hacienda La Esmeralda is a Panama-based coffee that debuted in 2004. This coffee is made of jasmine florals and stone fruits. With two different types of coffee, the Geisha and Catuai, you have to buy this special coffee through their once-a-year auction. Prices per kilogram can be anywhere from $500 to $2000 depending on the type of coffee purchased. If measuring in pounds it’s around $250 per pound. The Geisha coffee is grown and harvested in the mountains of Boquete and has fruity and floral notes. The Catuai coffee, however, has notes of dark chocolate, oranges, cloves, black pepper, figs and nuts. It’s grown on Diamond Mountain in Panama.
Kaya Kopi Luwak
As the most exclusive coffee in the world, Kaya Kopi Luwak coffee is produced 4000 feet above sea level in Indonesia. The coffee beans are cleaned and roasted at 391 degrees Farenheit to create a smooth taste and intense aromatics. With notes of honey, chocolate, citrus and jasmine, this coffee is priced at $649 for just two pounds.
Saint Helena Coffee
Another one of the most expensive coffees in the world is Saint Helena Coffee. This expensive brand is priced at $330 per pound because of its long sun-drying process and its honey, citrus and berry notes. While it may be jarring to to imagine citrus flavoring in your cup of joe, don’t knock it until you try it.
Black Ivory Coffee
On the market for over $1,500 per pound, the Black Ivory Coffee is known as one of the most expensive coffees. This coffee brand has a bit of sweetness with chocolate, caramel, cacao and sugar cane. There is also some fruitiness to it with peach, black tea, and tamarind notes. This combination allows for one of the best flavor profiles in a drink. Black Ivory Coffee is known as the world’s rarest coffee and is naturally refined by elephants.
Jamaican Blue Mountain Peaberry
Described as one of the most expensive and sought-after coffees in the world, Jamaican Blue Mountain Peaberry has a rich flavor. There are traces of floral, cream and chocolate in these coffee beans. It’s priced at around $92 a pound because of its perfect production with rich soil and rainfall.
