In envisioning a life where nothing’s out of reach, a sumptuous castle of a home is waiting for us somewhere in the scenes of our imagination. We’d buy the opulent mid-century estate in the hills or snag a waterfront vacation home in the Hamptons, complete with heated marble floors and enough acres to dock a cruise ship. Of course, indulging in the mere fantasy isn’t as satisfying without parsing real estate sites to see the most expensive homes on the market. It raises the question, however, who actually graces such ostentatious palaces? Who would become our neighbors in this dreamy fairytale?

There are many perks to being a celebrity, and luxury living is one of them. Across the world, A-listers have purchased and owned properties worth millions in the finest exclusive neighborhoods. From The Weeknd to Bill Gates, Home & Texture has rounded up some of the most expensive celebrity homes. Warning: your jaw might drop at the prices.

1. Beyoncé and Jay-Z

In 2023, Beyoncé and Jay-Z bought one of California’s premier homes. Located in Malibu’s prime Paradise Cove, the couple’s acquisition of the $200 million 8-acre property marks history as the most expensive single-family ever sold in the state and the priciest real estate transaction of the year. The seaside estate boasts views of the Pacific Ocean, two outdoor pools, and a 40,000-square-foot home built by architect Tadao Ando.

2. George Clooney

Sitting on picturesque Lake Como, George Clooney acquired his 18th-century Italian villa in 2002. Named Villa Oleandra, the ornate fixture is worth about $100 million. It has 25 rooms, including a “pizza room,” which is only fitting for such a lush Italian landscape.

3. Adele

Adele purchased her Beverly Hills compound from actor Sylvester Stallone in 2022 for $58 million. Get this: it features a “Rocky” statue by the pool, which the singer insisted on keeping. Stallone and his wife built the 21,000-square-foot home in the 1990s, according to Forbes.

4. Oprah

Oprah’s Montecito home is reportedly worth $101 million, though she purchased it for half its current appraisal. Constructed in 1957, some of the property’s impressive aspects are fruit orchards, an equestrian ring, and an expansive garden.

5. The Weeknd

The Weeknd purchased his Bel Air mansion for $70 million in 2021. You might’ve gotten an inside look without even knowing it; the 1.6-acre lot served as one of the primary shoot locations for the superstar’s television venture, “The Idol.” The approximately 33,000-square-foot abode includes a gym, movie theater, indoor pool, sauna, music studio, sports court, an infinity pool with a waterfall, and multiple outdoor entertaining spaces.

6. Cher

Cher listed her Italian Renaissance-style Malibu home at a price tag of $85 million in 2022. The villa-inspired home sits on 1.73 acres and includes an infinity pool and a tennis court. An inside look reveals neutral tones, marble accents, and curved stairways hidden within the walls of the 1950s architectural wonder.

7. Tina Turner

The queen of Rock lived lavishly in her $76 million Switzerland estate before she died in 2023. Turner moved into the home, named the Villa Algonquin, in 1998. She rented it for several years before due to restrictions on foreigners buying property in the country and finally acquired it after becoming a Swiss citizen in 2013. That year, she also married her partner Erwin Bach at the estate.

8. Bill Gates

It took seven years and $63 million to build Bill Gates’ 66,000-square-foot Medina, Washington, estate, named Xanadu 2.0. Now, it’s estimated to be worth more than $130 million. The mansion property boasts some pretty cool features, like a 60-foot pool, a towering trampoline, and sand imported from St. Lucia.
