As we continue to spend more time at home, the desire to create a cozy and inviting space has become increasingly important. One design trend that continues to gain popularity is Cottagecore, a style that celebrates the simplicity and charm of rural living. While this aesthetic is often associated with cozy kitchens and quaint bedrooms, there’s no reason why it can’t be brought into the bathroom as well. With a few simple tips, you can transform your bathroom into a relaxing and inviting space that captures the essence of Cottagecore.
Cottagecore Bathroom Decor Tips
Use Natural Materials
When it comes to Cottagecore, the basic thing to understand is how to use and decorate with natural materials. Think about how wood, stone, and ceramics can be used in your bathroom to capture the essence of this timeless aesthetic. Additionally, natural materials are readily available practically everywhere, and to some degree, you may already have these materials in your bathroom. For example, consider adding wooden decor pieces like soap dishes, or wooden freestanding items like a stool or a towel rack.
“Try a light shade of wood such as pine or light oak for a truly natural feel,” George Holland, a bathroom design expert at Victorian Plumbing, explained to Homes & Gardens. “Ensure that any natural wood used in the bathroom is properly waterproofed to minimize the risk of water damage, or opt for wood-effect items such as tiles or storage units.”
Add Plants
Now that you have the basics down, it’s time to introduce some plants to add a touch of nature to your Cottagecore bathroom look. Plants in the bathroom offer a beautiful and serene appeal, and they’re also a natural purifier. Find plants that thrive in wet and moist environments. “Plants will survive longer in a bathroom with natural lighting,” advised Holland. “Try and place in a corner, away from a window or direct sunlight. If your bathroom doesn’t have a window, try a calathea, as they can tolerate low lighting areas.”
Add Texture
You can use limewash paint, wallpaper, or shiplap to truly solidify the Cottagecore theme and add warmth to the space. Try to find some wallpapers that have a mix of neutrals throughout to create the ultimate relaxing bathroom, or seek out wallpaper with florals and leaves to obtain a more playful cottage effect.
Additionally, shiplap adds a rustic and cozy feel to the space, while limewash paint creates a soft, weathered look. Both options are relatively inexpensive and easy to install or apply, making them a great choice for a bathroom renovation on a budget. Overall, using shiplap or limewash paint can help you create a charming and inviting bathroom that perfectly captures the Cottagecore style.
